Mein Freund wollte eigentlich nie heiraten. Als er dann einige Wochen vor unserem Urlaub in Istrien, dem Ort meiner liebsten Kindheitserinnerungen plötzlich sehr merkwürdig wurde. Er fing an sein Telefon zu verstecken, zum Telefonieren aus dem Zimmer zu gehen und verbrachte lange Zeiten im Büro.Ich fand das alles sehr merkwürdig, machte mir aber kaum Gedanken weil ich zu sehr damit beschäftigt war mir über unseren im Urlaub anstehenden Tauchkurs Gedanken zu machen. Im Urlaub war er ganz der Alte. Und so verbrachten wir eine wunderschöne Woche, in der wir unseren Tauchkurs machten und die Sonne genossen. Bis zu unserem letzten Kurstag… Eigentlich lief der ganz gut. Wir machten unsere letzten Übungen, unter Wasser und bekamen die letzten Anweisungen. Aus mir unerfindlichen Gründen, verschwand allerdings die Luft ein wenig zu schnell aus der Pressluftflasche meines Freundes, heute weiß ich, dass er wohl ziemlich schwer atmete. Er hatte nur noch 10 Minuten Luft, aber wir wollten unbedingt noch gerne ein Abschlussbild von uns als glückliche ausgebildete Taucher. Also, fand unser Kursleiter eine ebene Fläche, die aussah wie eine wunderschöne Blumenwiese, nur eben unter Wasser. Ich war ganz darauf fixiert mich und meinen Freund in der Strömung zu stabilisieren, und eine gute Pose für das Foto zu machen. Unser Lehrer drückte ab, griff dann in seine Tasche und holte ein kleines schwarzes Kästchen hervor. Ich war komplett verwirrt, als er es meinem Freund reichte…bis der das Kästchen aufmachte und mir der schönste Ring entgegen blitzte. Für alle die sich jetzt fragen: Ja man kann auch unter Wasser weinen vor Freude, man kann sich auch um den Hals fallen, wenn auch ein bisschen langsamer als an der Oberfläche und man kann sich auch küssen. Was hätte ich anderes als ja sagen können, als er mir mit Handsignalen die alles entscheidende Frage stellte? Ich hatte solche Angst, dass der Ring weggeschwemmt werden würde, doch sowohl ich, als auch mein nun Verlobter (mit dem letzten bisschen Luft, das er noch hatte, aber glücklich wie ein Honigkuchenpferd) und der Ring schafften es gesund und munter an die Oberfläche. Dort habe ich übrigens nochmal einen ordentlichen, verbalen Antrag bekommen, inklusive einer Liebeserklärung, denn wer weiß ich hätte es mich auf den 18m vom Meeresgrund bis an die Oberfläche und ins Boot ja auch wieder anders überlegen können. Habe ich aber nicht und deshalb kann ich hier die Geschichte meines Heiratsantrages erzählen, den ich unter Wasser bekommen habe.
His perspective: I had been together with my girlfriend for more than 7.5 years. We’ve been through the happiest to the toughest times together. It had been a great journey so far and I knew she was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. The first thing was the ring. I don’t admire the commercialization of diamonds and I wanted the stone in the ring to be as special as my girlfriend. So the search for the perfect ring began. My girlfriend is a person with a curious mind and many hobbies. Every now and then she would draw and more frequently she drew hummingbirds. She would tell how drawing hummingbirds has helped her go through difficult times in her life. I remembered the characteristics of the hummingbird she used to draw a colour range going from red to green. Therefore, I was looking for Ruby or Emerald and while researching I found out that there’s a stone called Alexandrite, it is an iridescent stone that shimmers from green like an emerald to dark red like a ruby. I couldn’t have asked for more. So I tried to find it. In the end, I found the perfect Alexandrite in a shop in Malaysia. I ordered the gem and let a jeweller in Munich put it into a ring. It wasn’t an easy task to hide the conversations from my girlfriend. I had to communicate so often with the jeweller in Malaysia and in Munich, I thought it will somehow be apparent to her. Now I needed a setting to propose. Since I’ve known my girlfriend, she used to share a fond memory of Rovinj, a pirate city in Croatia. She used to talk about the narrow passages with slippery cobblestones and the sea with sharp stony beaches. She told me how she learnt to swim there and how much she loved the Croatian sea. So with a plan in mind, I proposed a vacation in Croatia but in a different location called Premantura not so far away from Rovinj. I insisted that we take a scuba diving course during our vacation. I called the diving school and shared my plan with them and they agreed to cooperate. So the adventure began. I had planned to propose to her during the last day of the diving course, however, the weather wasn’t looking favourable. The diving school was suggesting to me that I should change the plan. They would book me a ferry to an Island and perhaps I should propose to her there. I had almost given up hope and changed the plan but our diving instructor who was aware of the plan took me aside and told me he would get on with the first plan if I’m ready. What could I ask more for? So we went to our last dive of the course. I was so nervous about what was coming that I was at the last 10 mins of air when we weren’t even finished with our last drills. The instructor was telling me to be calm and shared his air. After the drills were over wanted to take a picture. He positioned us on a really great rock and said us to pose. While we were stabilizing I reached out with my hand to the instructor and he pulled out the ring he had stowed in his pocket. And with the ring in my hand, I hand signalled if it was “okay” or “not okay”. And the answer was “YES”. But I was not done with the surprises yet. We went back to our Airbnb host to collect our bags. She was really kind and opened a champagne bottle for us and we toasted together. We took a taxi from Premantura to the next destination. To my now fiancées’ surprise, we were going to Rovinj, where we spend our engagement honeymoon and where I have seen her the happiest I could imagine. :) |
